Getting started with Dashlane for Android
You can either create an account on the Android app or on your computer, and then sync your account on all your devices. If you are not sure whether your Android device is compatible with Dashlane, please check the minimum requirements to install and use Dashlane.
When you open your app for the first time, you’ll have the option to either create a new account or login to an existing one.
Creating your Dashlane account for the first time
When you’ve installed the app the first thing you need to do is create your Dashlane account. You’ll find the ‘Sign Up’ button at the bottom of the introductory screens.
To create your Dashlane account, enter the email address that you want to use as your Dashlane ID
Next, you need to set your Dashlane Master Password that you will use to log into your account from all your devices. Remember to make it at least 8 characters long, with at least one number and one lower and uppercase letter. Keep in mind that we cannot generate a new master password and send it to you if you forget it because your master password is not stored anywhere. You can always change this later, but you are the only one to have the key to your data.
To make sure you remember it, you will have to confirm your Dashlane Master Password on the next screen
Once your account has been created, you will be prompted to add passwords to your account. First of all, you can choose from the services that you already use on your phone.
When you’re done here (just tap "Done") you’ll arrive on the passwords screen, where you can add new passwords at any time using the green button (+).
As well as adding passwords one by one, the quickest way to get all your passwords onto your phone is to download the desktop version of Dashlane too. This allows you to find all the passwords saved in your computer’s browser and sync them to your phone too.
After you have added passwords to your account, you can explore the rest of the app using the menu on the left hand side. Just tap the three line button in the corner of your screen
This is the main menu for the app. Each section lets you add a certain kind of data:
- In the Passwords section, you can add all your web accounts. Find out how by clicking here.
- In the Secure Notes section, you can add any kind of data that you want to store securely and have access to everywhere. For example, your wifi passwords, software licenses, library cards, membership numbers, etc...
- In the Contact section, you can add all your contact details: name, phone number, address, email, company website, etc...
- In the IDs section, you can add your ID card, passport, etc...
- In the Payments section, you can add your credit cards, bank accounts and PayPal info.
If you already have a Dashlane account
Enter the email address you use for your Dashlane ID and your master password. If you have forgotten your master password, please click here.
You will be sent a six-digit security code to your email that you need to enter in order to authorize your account on this new device. You can manage your authorized devices from the Web app. Click here for more info on this.
If you have a problem with your security code, please close the app completely and then reopen it again. This will send a new code to your email. Make sure you check your Spam or Junk Mail folder.
When you add a new device to your Dashlane account, your data will be synced automatically, if you are a Premium user.
